| WESSEX HEARTBEAT -
SOUTHAMPTON
The background
Chief Executive D’Arcy
Myers has been in post for nearly a year at Wessex Heartbeat, the
Southampton-based charity linked directly with the cardiac unit at
Southampton General Hospital.
Wessex Heartbeat supports
everyone affected by heart conditions: those suffering from heart
problems, their families, friends and the wider community. The charity
owns a house with 25 bedrooms, which is situated next to the hospital,
where close family can stay when a loved one is in the cardiac unit.
The charity’s work extends
from going out at the request of employers, to workplaces, and carrying
out heart health-checks, to helping identify people who may be at risk
of heart problems and educating them in how they may be able to reduce
this risk.
The requirements
As Chief Executive of
Dreams Come True, D’Arcy worked for seven years to grow the organisation
which was helping approximately 160 children a year when he first
started there, and 400 by the time he left.
|

He decided it was time for
a new challenge, and began looking for a new charity within the same
region, with a deep root in society and the potential to grow under his
guidance.
D’Arcy was looking for a
recruitment consultancy to help him address this challenge. In
particular one with expertise in both the charity sector and the local
region, as he found that many specialist charity recruitment
consultancies had no local knowledge as they tended to operate on a
national level.
The solution
PAS Consultants provided
the solution for D’Arcy by taking the time to understand his needs as a
candidate and carefully considering the roles he would be both
interested in and perfect for, before making suggestions to him. He
commented: “They understood my needs and aspirations, and due to their
detailed understanding of each of the roles they recruit for, they were
able to match me up with the perfect position.” |
The results
PAS placed D’Arcy at Wessex
Heartbeat, where he is extremely happy. He was so impressed by the way
PAS worked, that he now uses them to recruit his own staff.
He added: “We are currently
using PAS to recruit a critical new post. I see them as part of the
Wessex Heartbeat team – they understand our vision and it feels like
they are part of the organisation. Because of the way they work, we see
PAS as our HR team as well as a specialist consultancy.”
What next?
D’Arcy and PAS continue to
work together, but their relationship has taken on a new guise, with
D’Arcy at Wessex Heartbeat now as the client and no longer the
candidate. |
